乾いた花 Pale Flower

1964年に映画化された石原慎太郎原作、篠田正浩監督の「乾いた花 」を見た。 

おそらく1964年の東京オリンピック前に撮られたものであるから、冒頭の車窓からの風景が映るシーンでは、至る所で地面が掘られた過渡期の東京が見れる貴重な映像だと思う。

I watched a film "Pale Flower" which is from the story by Shintaro Ishihara(ex-ex-Tokyo mayer) and directed by Masahiro Shinoda in 1964.

Since this film had been done before the Tokyo olympic in 1964, I assume, you can see the view of changing Tokyo city where there were a lot of excavated construction sites.

それにしても、映画に出てくるセットや撮り方がかっこ良い。

主人公役、池部良（wikipediaを見て驚いたが、彼は波瀾万丈の人生を送った）の部屋は粗く大きな傷が入った木造黒壁（おそらく）の部屋に濃い色の洋風カーペットが敷いてあり、低めのアームチェア一脚とテーブルという簡素な設え。

前川國男や増沢洵の60年代あたりの作品を見ていつも感じるが、この時代くらいまでは日本建築の要素が随所に残っており、洋風のモノと良い感じで混ざり合い両義的な空間になっている。そして空間に闇がある。作品集や映画を白黒で見ているからではなく、実際その時代の作品を見に行っても同じように感じた。街灯にしてもそうだが、おそらく照度に対する感覚が今とは違っていたのだろう。

Settings and camera works of this film seemed to me very fascinating.

A room of the main actor, Ryo Ikebe - I was shocked when I read his stormy life in wikipedia - only has wooden structure, black painted walls - which is kind of traditional style - with a rough scratch, a single arm chair and tables on a western dark carpet.

When I see the works of Kunio Maekawa and Makoto Masuzawa in 60s, I always feel that Japanese space (city, bulding and interior) had kept traditinal elements and were ambivalent with imported western elements before the period of high economic growth. Japanese space had darkness - not because of a black and white film or photographs. I can still feel that when I see Japanese buildings of 60s. - and Japanese people had different sense of illumination such as streetlights.

東京オリンピックや高度経済成長期あたりから、僕がこの映画で魅力を感じているような空間がなくなっていき、明るい街灯に照らされた道や均質な照明のオフィス空間のように両義性を排除しナイーブな方向に日本が向かっていったのかもしれないと感じた。
空間の話ばかりになってしまったが、ストーリー、スタイル、武満徹の音楽も素晴らしい。

I imagine that the space by which I am fascinated in this film started disappearing around this period and Japan went towards a naive direction loosing ambivalence such as streets and office space with homogeneous light .
Although I have only written about space, the story, style and music by Toru Takemitsu are also great.
